Known simply as The River Road, FM 170 hugs the Rio Grande for roughly 70 miles between Presidio and Study Butte-Terlingua through Big Bend Ranch State Park. The road climbs and plunges in roller-coaster fashion, weaving around volcanic canyon walls with dramatic drop-offs and sweeping desert vistas that riders consistently rate among the best in the country. The remoteness and fuel scarcity demand careful preparation.
