Yamaha has officially unveiled the 2026 Ténéré 700 Rally Edition, and it's the most significant update to the platform since its launch. Built to bridge the gap between the standard Ténéré and purpose-built rally machines, the new Rally Edition addresses nearly every complaint the adventure community has had about the original.
Key Changes
Suspension
Gone are the standard KYB units. The Rally Edition gets fully adjustable KYB 43mm forks with 230mm of travel (up from 210mm) and a new KYB rear shock with external reservoir and 220mm of travel. Both are fully adjustable for preload, compression, and rebound.
Electronics
The new 5-inch TFT dash replaces the aging LCD unit, adding smartphone connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation compatibility, and switchable display modes. Yamaha has also added a two-mode traction control system — a first for the Ténéré platform.
Ergonomics
The Rally Edition features a taller, narrower seat (895mm), reshaped tank shrouds for better knee grip while standing, and a new handlebar position that's 15mm higher and 10mm rearward. The rally-style footpegs are wider and have aggressive traction teeth.
Protection
Factory-installed aluminum skid plate, radiator guard, and handguards come standard. The headlight gets a stone guard, and the tank is wrapped in plastic protectors.
What Stays the Same
The proven CP2 689cc parallel-twin engine carries over unchanged — it didn't need fixing. Yamaha has, however, added a quickshifter as standard equipment. The steel tube frame and overall architecture remain the same, maintaining the Ténéré's excellent reliability track record.
Pricing and Availability
The 2026 Ténéré 700 Rally Edition will be available in Q2 2026 at an MSRP of $12,499 — a $2,600 premium over the standard model. It comes in two colorways: Heritage White (a nod to the original Dakar bikes) and Tactical Grey.
For riders who want a rally-capable machine without the $20,000+ price tag of a KTM 890 Rally or Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports, the new Ténéré Rally Edition looks like a compelling option. We'll have a full ride review when press bikes become available.
